came across this view of Half Dome one morning while riding my mountain
bike around Yosemite Valley. I decided to photograph the scene when the
face of Half Dome was bathed in sunlight. I used a light red filter (#23,
090 B+W) to significantly darken the sky to help separate the dome and
the sky. This produced a very pronounced contrast between half Dome and
the sky which makes it pop right out at you. Any less of a filter would
of rendered the sky much lighter grey, and in my opinion would not of conveyed
the dramatic effect of the great mass of Half Dome against the sky. |
