I first came upon this scene in August 1988 while camping at Woods Lake near Carson Pass, California. It is about an hour and a half hike from the camp site. You are just above the tree line by about 500 feet. I've visited these three snags numerous times since then and have had about three successful alternate photographs of them. This visit was on August 5, 1995, the day Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead passed away. I learned of his death when I returned home that evening. Each time I return the weather conditions are significantly different. I've yet to return and encounter the same type of weather twice.
