With
California history as a hobby, I have walked the coast of California from
Mexico to Oregon and part of our trails, driven the highways and byways
of California. Yosemite gives my spirit the knowledge that it is the soul
of California. A look at your pictures now and then is like vitamins.
I love
this site
I'm
currently an amateur photographer and I really admire your photographs!
what ASA do you use for your film? the images you captured are really breathtaking
(pertaining to the nature shots). I liked the way you were able to capture
an angle with the tree wherein you were able to show the contrast of the
textures of the tree and the ground behind it!

Very
enjoyable, easy on the eyes. At the same time, they are great landscapes,
and subjects.
Great

Beautiful
photography. I loved your stuff. I am embarking on a new photography portfolio
for myself and like you, I am shooting only B&W. Although, I am sure
you shoot some color too. I think you have a great eye for a B&W photographer.

Hi Craig, how is Poody doing? Tell him I said hi. Tell Miss Kitty I said hi also. Also, tell the big guy who works with you to get with it. I also wanted to comment on your website, I think it is excellent work. Your photos are beautiful. You are an excellent photographer. Thanks, Susie
Beautiful luminous work. You have great mastery over the photographic process which is evident even through the computer monitor. Nathan
i just
wanted to say that you do great work i enjoy it very much. keep up the
good work craig
Wonderful site! your photographs are beautiful. I have been interested in nature photos for some time. I am considering doing work as you do except on the East Coast, specifically the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Your site has been the best in quality have have visited. Thanks for your service. Darrell
I am
looking at getting back into 5x7 work with a Deardorf 5x7 special. I have
an old Elwood 5x7 I could modify or I could just buy an Zone VI 5x7 with
a VC cold light head used on Ebay. I have been told that the Zone VI has
a problem with edge falloff and requires heavy edge burning. Is that your
experience ? I could adapt my Elwood 5x7 with a 8x10 cold light head and
have plenty of coverage. ????
Your
images are exactly what I've been trying to achieve ever since I took up
photography two years ago. I love the tonality of your shots and the simplicity.
I look forward to seeing more.

Your

Wow your work is amazing!! I feel that I can just walk into the scenes. I have recently got into photography, if I get half as good as you I will be a very happy woman. I look forward to seeing more of your work Regards Sherrie

Hi,
-Tuesday,
August 10, 2004 at 00:18:05 (EDT)
Having fished the eastern Sierra for the past 40 years and photographed there for the past 7 years, and hoping to retire there some day, your images are of great interest to me. You seem to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time, and I appreciate how much effort and time that takes. Although I agree that 4x5 is the ultimate format for landscape (unless one is masochistic enough to lug an 8x10 around), and as I seldom print larger than 11x14, I prefer the convenience of roll film. I shoot primarily with a horseman 985 in 6x9 format, although I have an old 2x3 crown graphic with several pre-war, uncoated Zeiss Tessar and Goerz lenses I love to shoot with also. Your shots of "relics", are of particular interest to me, as they are one of my favorite subjects. I recently returned from a three week excursion shooting ghost towns in central New Mexico, and my wife can barely get me out of the darkroom these past couple of weeks. You
have a great eye for uncluttered, straight forward composition, although
I find the long exposures of flowing water a bit tiresome. You print beautifully,
and I hope to someday to be able to master that art as you apparently have.
I sincerely hope that film and wet printing survive the digital blitz,
and as long as people like you keep the world aware of how wonderful these
methods are, I'm sure they will.
I love
you
Great
black and white photo's. You have given me the insperation to start my
own web site.

You are obviously an acomplished professional. Though I have little time for my first love (photography)... I'm a web designer w/6 new sites coming out by summer's end. My question: Will $1,000 buy me a "decent enough" digital SLR to produce printable and saleable work. I suspect you use large format still cams (film). Seeing your work almost undermines my entire web marketing business plan. When
I publish these ventures... I'll be back in touch. It's rare to come across
real talent.
Jim
I'm only a novice "photog". This work makes me yearn to move from the NC Hills... and "go west"! Fantastic Stuff! Jim

Craig,
Great site. Well set up and easy to use. The photography is wonderful.
I especially enjoyed looking at your equipment list. Most photographers
don't list that and I find it fun to see what other photographers use.
I also liked your disclaimer about the use of the equipment. It is the
talent and work of the photographer that makes the difference and not the
equipment per se.
A little
late but I want to wish you a good luck in this year Happy New Year

Hello Artist, it is you who cast our mood. It is like I am a child, wide eyed, stand next to mystery & a dream. As these look to me as they do to you. Photos speaking loudly of their memories, now part of mine, haunting peacefulness and bliss, as if I stood beside you. It is I, in love with shades of black and of white, as well as you are obvious. Simple it is what our three eyes capture, it is us who only frame it. From: an appreciative artist, appreciating art. -Tuesday,

Beautiful
prints.... Sharp and Rich, period end of sentence.
Your
work is absolutely beautiful. I am currently in school for photography
and I had an assignment to print out an artists' works for class and of
course, after seeing yours, I had to print it and must say you are my new
favorite artist!!!
Mr.Wells,
You are Master Of Light and Shadow. Good Luck.
Great

Love
your photography, would love to come out west to do some photgraphy,do you
have any classes out there .Trying to save my pennies so that I can make
the trip, have a view camera and would like to put it to use. I do a lot
of impressionistic photography. Thanks Jim Moses
Dear Mr. Wells, I am a semi retired medical device company executive who is returning to his love of photography. I see we share a love for the high Sierra and was pleased to see that we stood on almost the same place on the shore of Tenaya Lake to capture an image. Mine just done recently. I really love your work and your sense of quality. I was
wondering if you do any personal teaching or if I could perhaps observe
you work in the darkroom in order to increase my very old and lacking skills
in this area.
Your images are wonderful... please let me know as new ones are posted. With kindest regards, Phil Radlick -Tuesday,

Hi,

me want to run outside and watch the scenery for hours. Your work captures
the perfect beauty of what God has created for us to enjoy. Keep up the

Your
work is incredible. Your ability to capture the forestry and the feelings
a hiker/nature lover enjoys while in the woods is truly inspiring, especially
given the low light levels many forests have.
Thanks
for sharing your work. Reminds me that I'm way overdue a visit to the US
:-))
I Really
love all the pictures that you have posted on your site. I got into black

I think these photos are so awesome...I really like the little details that are in the photos... I'm
just a beginner in photography but I love shooting I'm currently working
on a theme -- the nature I find it really difficult to take pictures of
the sky.
Hi,

I ran across your site a couple of nights ago and I am totally thrilled to find a standard to strive for. I am currently wound up in taking pictures with my Korona 5x7 field camera and printing them on my Elwood 5x7 enlarger. I am having a blast. I like the vintage aspect of the art and I am totally driven. Your work is beautiful. Without a question, Outstanding. Compliments to your ability to take the time and document each exposure with so much detail. Thank you for your guidance with the zone system. I know how to use it but still screw up sometimes. I hope to meet you sometime. I travel through Stockton frequently on my way to Lake Camanche. I would like to stop by and see some of your work. Regards,
Nice
job!
Great
work! I love the photos. Right now I'm taking a photography class in school,

Mr.

many people are buying the products anyway. I will forward your website

I would
just like to tell you that your work astonishes me I am 16 and am trying

me KNOW that is what I want to do!! THANK YOU
Exquisite
images, Craig. I'm a photographer/cinematographer. My brother, father,

and amazing zonal range. Keep up the beauty.

Craig,
I am in awe over the photography on this site, since I can't afford your

are a fantastic man.
Really
beautiful work. Great website! Was recomended to see your site through

Great

I love

Your
work is very good. I like how you made the photos look like they are in
a frame. Very nice & classy.
I adore
your pictures! I have always loved B/W photos and since I also work with
editing and manipulating photos, I truly enjoyed your work. Best of luck!
Really
beautiful....very inspiring......keep up the good work! x anji
I just
love B&W photografy and yours is great.
Beautiful work. Stunning images and wonderful detail. The images have an Ansel Adams quality about them - the detail, the quality, composition. Superb. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Peter
Fantastic!
I was totally blown away with your photos. I'm taking up photography to
help with my design degree. Any tips for starting up would be really helpful.
After seeing this I will be a regular to your site. Thanks for the inspiration.
Wonderful....
I really enjoyed your site and shall definitely visit again. Keep up the
good work.. God bless, Ben.
I like
allot of the pictures on this site. I am really into B/W photography and
I enjoy reading all the techniques and mechanics that these people use.
The images are very textured and very realistic and they are very nice.
Your
photography is inspiring....
Superb
work Craig.
Amazing
our world in black and white, too.
The
images are wonderful.
I like
your work, I am a photographer and I teach high school photography. I am
going to have my students check out your stuff, Thanks.
I just
saw your new photographs, they are beautiful. Thank you for notifying me
about them.
I really
love your photographs deep in the forest and the mountain ones, good luck
with your site.
Some
of the best photographic images of landscapes I've seen yet. The black
and white makes the images even more appealing to the human eye, creating
an image which seems to have been photographed yet manufactured in the
mind. I'm a musician and would really like to use some of your images for
the album cover design on "Little White Lies." Please feel free to contact
me if you are interested.
Stunning.
Your photography is well crafted and an inspiration to fellow photographers.
The influence of Ansel Adams is clear but at the same time you obviously
add something of your own to all of the compositions. Black and white is
the best medium for expressing the natural beauty of the earth and you
capture it so well. Please keep up the good work. (Makes me want to go
and buy a large format camera!)
I grew up very close to the site where you photographed the rapids of the Calaveras river. It was an inspiration to me to see that the beauty that surrounded me in my years of youth was captured by you. I cannot afford to purchase your print, but do want to extend my warmest thanks and appreciation for the moment that was captured by you on film. Matt
Ames
I really
love Print #217. Tenaya Lake is really beautiful and that is a fantastic
photograph. I am 16 and am currently studying Photography at school and
looked up your work. I am going along the same kind of theme for my project
and really liked the ones at Tenaya Lake. You are very talented and have
an eye for beautiful things.
What
beautiful photography!!!!
I like
#217, Tenaya Lake. I do volunteer work with the Yosemite Association and
and last October we did a restoration project on the east side of Tenaya
Lake. If you go there, you'll notice that the road near the picnic area
and the lake shore has been replaced with a meadow. That was the project
we did last October. I am considering the purchase of this photo, but I
can't decide between the 11" or the 16". I would definitely get the framed
version. Thanks
Very
nice work, I just started using a Wista 4x5 I love it.

Hi

June 09, 2002 at 11:36:11 (EDT)
Looking
for advice on the best way to make money doing what I love to do "photography".
Just getting into large format with an old Burke & James Grover 4x5,
but have yet to take my first photograph. Won't till I can develop and
print. Any advice would be helpful.
Thank
you for taking beautiful photography. I can't wait to see others.
Absolutely
beautiful work. You have my deepest admiration.
Your
B&W wallpaper of Lake Tenaya is visually more interesting than a lot
of color photos. It appears we are all affected by Ansel's work in the
Valley. You have done very well in keeping the B&W art form alive.
It's
nice to see black & white nature photography done so well. You have
a great site! Thanks for the inspiration.
Enjoyed your site even though I didn't have time to look around much this time. Found it via Google looking for the specs on the Gitzo tripods Really Right Stuff is recommending because I have older and heavier Manfrotto gear I don't carry as often as I should. Sam
You do amazing work! Your photos are really moving, keep up the great work. Mike

pictures. I wish I could afford to buy some.
Beautiful,
beautiful images. What an inspiration! Love the b&w. Obviously keep
up the good work.
Craig
- Just a note to let you know how much I enjoy viewing your online photographs.
LF B&W images - well done, of course - never cease to appeal to me
and I don't know why. Here in Baltimore there aren't many (or any!) b&w
landscape workers to compare notes with. I'd give anything to have a group
of western photographers - good ones like yourself - be let loose here
my area just to see what photographs they'd produce, This is the kind of
inspiration I need. A pipe dream. Anyway keep up the good work. Nice to
see classic photography beautifully done. Good looking site, too!
I've
just found your page. The images are stunning!
I'm
not sure I've emailed you before but it's a pleasure to see your photography
and gain inspiration from it. I have a great desire to start shootin on
large format as soon as I can afford a good camera.....wishing you well...Bip
Your photos took my breath away. I was looking for something like this a while ago, but I could not find it on the net. I loved all your photographs. I was just wondering if I can use one of them for my wallpaper desktop. Thanks in advance. Dexter
I really
like your Photographs, however I could do a lot better. You have good texture
and the Black and White photos are fabulous. You need to work on your backgrounds
they are to plain, and not that visual, because you can bearly see what
you are trying to take. Anyways have a nice day.
Mr.
Wells, I love your work. I'm an aspiring b&w professional and especially
love your work in and around Yosemite. Many years ago I lived in the valley
for 1 year. I too fell in love with the area.

Beautiful work Craig, I love especially the Relics from the past. I love the inspirational thought given to you just prior to finding these beautiful creation which only time can bring to life. I have one I took, well it two shots of an old sheep herders shack, one is of the window from the out side the other is the window from the inside. I was inspired by these pictures to write a short poem, its called "The Beauty Of Age" Out

Great
pictures! It's another point of viewing this beautiful world that we, ordinary
people ignore it. You have Eyes. And Mind. And you really can change the
world as you wish. I really love your point of view and your work and I
wish you so much to notify me of all your news. Thank you for all!
I sure
enjoyed seeing your fine work. I also do large format landscape but don't

I have
come across your site a number of times and now I cannot restrain myself
any longer :) I simply love your style! If I ever had role models, you
would certainly be one of the them. I hope one day I will be able to do
what you do as a profession. Thank you for enabling us to view your work!
Great
images.
I like
what I see. There is an area I think you should check out. Emma Lake is
between Walker and Bridgeport on 395 and it is possibly the most beautiful
lake i have ever been to.
Keep
up the great work.
I really
enjoy photography. Your images took my breath away. You are remarkable!
Keep up the excellent work.
No
suggestions needed... It is perfect! Pure magic, astounding views, wonderful
sites, flawless works.
G'day Craig, it is great to share with others, I have sold a few paintings (when I need new equipment) but I mainly give them to people who ask. My work is Australian landscapes and pioneer relics. Your part of our world looks so very beautiful and tranquil, when I get the hang of this web thingy I will send you some images of my part of our planet, very different but stunningly beautiful like your mountains. Thank you for sharing. Cheerio,
Bhappy.
I visited
Yosemite in 1979 and came away overwhelmed by its beauty and the original
images by Ansel Adams I saw there and in Carmel. I am a professional photographer
today, although sadly not the landscape photographer I was determined to
be then. I came upon your website by accident and was absorbed by the images.
Black and white photography is still to me the most stunning of photographic
mediums and I think many of your photographs were stunning. So many B&W
images are mere imitation of Adams' work, but your images were very distinctive
and with a distinct style of their own. In a world where digital images
are ever encroaching on us, it is refreshing to see dedication to the traditional
way so effectively and creatively used. Thanks for the inspiration.
Wonderful
photographs. your notes are interesting. Especially about catching the
falling camera. I have spent time in those mountains and welcomed the view
your photographs just gave me.
I love
the imagery in your black and white.
Art Romance: Paintings by Enriquillo Beautiful photos and a really elegant site! Congratulations!
Thought
your work was wonderful, it is startling how close it is in content
to my own! The images are just great - you are obviously very gifted. Keep
going.
I think
you do amazing work and have helped to mentor me in amazing ways. You are
truly gifted.
I really enjoyed your photographs of the relics. I am a fan of black and white photography and I just loved your picture of the old door hinge. Your pictures have inspired me to take a closer look at the old and forgot |
